·         Each angler will receive a total of five tags for the 2010 season. This year all five will be Red in colour. Each tag has a unique serial number and has been recorded by the Association  along with the number on your membership card. As such tags are unique to each member and must not be swapped between anglers etc. They should be carried at all times as they effectively constitute part of the permit issued to members.

·         If a salmon is killed, it must be tagged immediately after capture. Pass the thin end of a Red tag through the gills of the fish and out through the mouth. Lock the end in the slot provided at the other end of the tag. Ensure that it is firmly locked in place by gently pulling  the tag from both sides of the locking slot at the same time. The tag is now tamper-proof and cannot be removed without breaking it. DO NOT practice on the tags you have been given as once they have been locked in place they cannot be re-used.  Only one salmon can be tagged per day by a member and he or she may not continue fishing upstream of Bonar Bridge for the remainder of any day that he or she  has killed a salmon.

·         It is advisable to keep one Red tag aside to enable the angler to practise catch and release fishing after four of the Red tags have been used. If a salmon is badly hooked or seal damaged etc and is killed by an angler the remaining tag may be used. However, any salmon with a tag that has been used for this purpose is not the property of the angler but must be handed in to the Association Chairman or Secretary. At their discretion, another tag may or may not be issued to the angler. The number of tags issued will be closely monitored and its issue withdrawn if it is felt necessary.

As an addition to this information please be aware that any Green or Yellow tags from last year are no longer useable and must be discarded.
